Ok so let me start off by saying Iโm a big fan of The 1990 Mini Series, loved it! Iโve never read the book, but still love the premise. This was a big disappointment in a lot of ways.
First of all, they do this time jump thing where it makes it very confusing if you havenโt seen or read The Stand in the past. Itโs hard to follow when they could have have just made a story in chronological order.
Second of all, the overuse of violence and profanity and other scenes of inappropriateness. The Stand is a classic tale of Good vs. Evil, but most importantly, Good people vs Evil. It doesnโt make a compelling story when someone says the f word every 30 seconds, or when somebody loses a head every episode, or other gross things that happen at Las Vegas.
Third of all, the characters arenโt the same. Franny is too dramatic, mother Abigail isnโt really that great, and Harold is a weirdo. Stew is decent, and Nick is okay. Although, instead of sacrificing himself in the original The Stand, Nick randomly just finds the bomb and gets blown up. Lloyd is portrayed as a hood gangsta, when his character is a calm, villainous one. The only good character that stands out is Tom Cullin, this guy did a really good job playing him. Also this Randall Flagg isnโt that bad, he has a cleaner haircut which kind of makes him look more like a powerful leader, and is very compelling in a lot of ways.
All in All, this show was a huge disappointment, if you want to see a better version, try the 1990 mini series. Iโd give this 0 stars.
