I've gotten twenty hours in, and I personally find it to be the worst of the new games.
The graphic and world are made beautifully, and Norway is absolutely stunning to look at. England is brought to life in a stunning rendition that is clearly made with liberal artistic licence. England is a soggy place and it is not that green and gold in the most lovely of places, but still wonderful to imagine! The graphics alone are superb.
The storyline, however, is dull, aimless, meandering, and left wanting. Your character has no personal stakes to draw you in, and there's no reason why they should go after Templars other than it's an AC game and Templars are baddies. There is no reason to go to England other than being railroaded because you HAVE to go there, and your main enemy dies in tutorial, which removes every motivation of why you are doing anything at all. Personal motivation for the main storyline goes away with his death, but you have to go with your whiny Viking Prince because he isn't happy being not being a king one day, even if it means his people have peace and safety.
Bugs aside, the plot feels weak and lacking in motivation after Odyssey. There was tons of personal stakes and motivations that kept one immersed and the slaughter of one ancient to the next feeling natural. This game feels like it was meant for better things, and as if it fell short of everything that it started to do to be great.
In short, this is one of the most okayest Assassin's Creed games I've every played, and I own all of the franchise.
