It's a strange psychological movie with a Japanese cultural feel to it, that follows a love triangle and a dark past portrayed through Lucy's eyes. Alicia Vikander truly immersed herself in this film, and it was captivating to watch her display an emotionally dark character with so much conviction, she leaves no room for doubt.
The movie has great photography and nature scenes. And I enjoyed how smartly the music was played. There was also a certain silence to it that was so telling and truthful ...and yet enough to keep one engaged. This helped the movie capture the audience quite well.
I guess the downfall for me was that it didn't grasp my attention to a tee, particularly in terms of Naoki Kobayashi's character. He felt a little bit off-ish, but then again I can see how that could've been the aim of the write. To me it felt like there was a lot of spaces he could've filled.
However I enjoyed the movie and it's ending left me quite teary. Without spoiling it, I hope this sheds light into what to expect.
Technically I am giving it 3 and a half stars. And totally 5 stars for Alicia Vikander's effortlessly played character.
