I would like to start this comment or review with the definition of a reboot. A reboot in film and television means "Something, especially a series of films or television programs, that has been restarted or revived." Restart meaning to start again or continue. This show is not that. If it was to be a reboot then the "Original" (and I say this loosely because I don't think the mentioned show is a second to the classic) left so many ways they could have done it. The Original left space for this very idea with Phoebe's three daughters, Piper's two sons and Paige's twins. Now to talk about this show. I do not hate the idea. I love the idea of a people of color cast and diversity is great however it shouldn't be thrown down the audiences' throat. I would like to respond to all of those that said that the two shows should not be compared. That is difficult when the two have the same name. That goes to say that by having the same name as the 1998 adaptation this version will be ridiculed and held to a higher expectation for a science fiction series.
Now The film did have to potential to be great but if everyone wants to say that it is its own show then perhaps the name should be changed. I do not agree with the fact that the 1998 show was not inclusive or feminist enough but the opposite. The show had lots of representation that didn't have to be forced. The characters were developed as the audience watched. We learned to love these characters, we laughed with them, we cried with them. This is good acting. No one knew that the characters didn't like each other in real life until the news were spread about it.
The plot of the original was great, smooth with a few rocky times but well thought out. However, this new series as far as I can tell doesn't know where to go. Of course I think it is fair to point out that I have not watched much of the show. Actually I only been able to watch three episodes of cringe worthy content. The characters weren't developed or thought out enough. Going into the next season they have a lot to try to make up for.
Dont get me started on the CGI. Again expectations were higher then they should have been. There is so much that I would like to say but I will sum it up to say that despite the shows potential it has yet to reach it and I have sadly given up hope on the production and creation of this series so with this I give my good by to my wishful thinking of a reboot worthy of the charmed name.
