As an attorney who has mentored many young attorneys, I enjoy the show. However, as any attorney can tell you, your stories are incredibly unrealistic. That's pretty common for television shows about the law. I have never commented until now. This is important for any trial lawyer to know.
Cases are won or lost long before closing. All these wonderfully written and delivered closing arguments are an incredible waste of time in any case. Jurors decide cases in the first 10 to 20 minutes of hearing evidence. That's why going first is so important and one of the reasons the prosecution has such an advantage. You have had episodes where the young attorney (who would never be trying a case as such a new attorney) gives a wonderful closing and still loses. Make a bigger deal of the fact that great closings do not win cases. Lawyers do not win cases. Facts win cases and the lawyers job is to make sure the jury (or the judge) hears the facts in a way that convinces them to the position you want them to have.
