An addictive, suspense filled, psychological thriller, which will keep you intrigued long after the final credits have rolled.
Set in a very detailed and believable 19th Century America, the protagonists impress in their individual roles and when joining forces to catch the killer, they become a force to be reckoned with.
Season 1 deals with a brutal killer of boy prostitutes and takes us through a world most of us could not even image existed in that period of American society.
The story line is uncomplicated, but thought provoking and I for one, could not wait to watch the following episode.
Although the second season's story line deals with another vicious and demented killer, this time the victims are babies, it differs enough from Season 1 to keep our minds from drawing any comparison or conclusion based on the first season and stands completely on it's own merits.
In fact, if one could rate each season separately, I would rate the first a solid 4 stars and Season 2, which I personally found the acting to be a bit more intense and the story line a bit more enthralling, a 4.5 rating.
Overall, masterfully written story lines, close to excellent acting and absolutely pin point accurate period sets & costumes, make The Alienist a very worthwhile contender for my Top 10 Netflix series of all time.
A must watch for all Suspense Thriller sleuths out there.
