Cannot fathom why this film is receiving good reviews. Way too long; pretentious and overdone -- wall-to-wall wailing fog horns, screeching winds and all kinds of wetness -- Nature's and human. You may start longing for a hot shower half-way. Only redeeming element is Dafoe, who spews endless 'old-time shanty' pseudo wisdom in long, single takes and makes the best of a directionless script of cheap scares and thunder heavy symbolism signifying nothing in the end. A mash-up of myth, male bloating, Melville and Maine cliches. Whew. Puzzling? Who cares.
