Utter drivel, l wish l could give it no stars. Dracula reinvented by small minds. When will the BBC stop throwing money at these two writers. Bram Stoker's Dracula is terrifying, fascinating and hypnotic this version was dull as dishwasher. If you take the special effects and gore out there wasn't much too it.
Instead of THEE terrifying vampire whom we are lead to believe picks up the memories and traits of his victims, scholars, philosophers and the like, we have a fanged blood addict with the wit and conversation of a sniggering school boy.
The quips were worthy of Roger Moore's 007. If stories are to be believed this was just a long audition for that. Nothing chilling or frightening about our slightly dapper but desperately in need of a manicure Prince of Darkness.
Episode 1 was totally stolen by John Heffernan's Harker who gave us an almost 3 dimensional character. I was far more horrified by his decay than the creature that caused it.
Episode 2 was too long and boring and too much mediocre Dracula. The rest of the cast should have really paid more attention to the dialogue coach assuming they hired one.
Episode 3 Very Dr. Who, which l have loved, on a high budget. But such tosh. Seeking a bride to have progeny? All that time on the internet and he didn't look up a genetic clinic!!! Just didn't buy one word of any of it.
P.S. Didn't like the hidden agenda either. All the female characters were either celibate or barren or pathetic. The one who did have life and beauty was severely punished for it. Bad things happen to bad girls "YAWN". It's 2020 surely it's time the beeb had a clear out and brought in writers with fresh ideas who aren't SO impressed by their own wit.
