The book with both a common and uncommon name at the same time. UNNS - the Captivation when you read it at first and if you are not familiar with Urdu like me the first thing that you do is to divide the title in two UNNS and the captivation. But during the story, I came to know they are not two but one. It's a beautiful story that takes you through seven stages of love. A love that is unconditional, but unfaithful at the same time. The Love that shows you its power in each Part differently, bringing out a different emotion each time. Range in Vocabulary, simple Language, and soothing Typesetting of the book makes it pleasing to read.
The book starts with a beautiful love story that caters to masses, readers who are in their late school years, and early college years. The story initially takes you back in your school days and brings out the child in you who used to be afraid of their crushes at first. It shows the purity of attraction that innocent kids have during their mid-teens, just as these words say it
"How happy is the blameless vestal's lot,
the world forgetting by the world forgot.
Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind,
Each prayer accepted and each wish resigned"
The book consists of 3 parts the first is Basant, then comes Herbst and the last one is Winter each consisting of their own perfectly paced subparts. Each of these parts goes through all seven stages of love in three different times of their lives but each of them concludes with a different tragedy since the last stage of Love is Maut. The author did try to keep the past and present transitions simple and interesting but they were oversimplified making them barely noticeable at times. This causes you to feel lost for a line or two before you grasp on to reality. Although, the chapter labels are funny, caring, and sad, however by the time you read the last words they would have been imprinted in your mind. Reading this book is like watching Brett Lee bowl, he starts with small steps and then picks up the pace but with the pace, his strides get bigger and longer as he moves forward. This book is like that, you start with small chapters and once you are hooked after 2-3 chapters it starts with a longer version.
The year-long leaps that this book has are quite distinctive and you won't miss them but the day or week-long leaps that it has will distract you a bit as they are barely noticeable. That is the part where the author could have done better with editing. As for the story, it was beautifully written and is worth a read. To find out all seven phases of love, how does the love story ends each time, who leaves who and whose heart is broken, buy the book.
