I too gobbled up the books and watched tonight in great anticipation. When cast was announced I was horrified that Pierce B was to play Ron, who should be a «  wide boy » who had made good. Felt this casting was a disaster. He is just too suave to embody Ron, and too physically big.Others were v good, but you dont get the humour of Joyce ( my favourite character) as the diary entries are not in film. Fiona Shaw reading these on an audio book were much funnier than this film. Agree with others that a mini series would have been better as it all seemed rushed. A cosy watch, but didnt live up to the book, or the hype in the last 2 weeks.

What really spoiled it for me were the modern barbers haircuts which looked incongruous above the period costume. And men in that era wore hats out of doors. Sofor me it was a bit «  posh boys dressed up » which ruined the Tudor atmosphere. Spendmore on hair and makeup, a la Wolf Hall

Everything about this amazing series was Truthful. Stephen Graham gave a masterclass in the disbelueving Dad, but the supporting cast cannot be faulted. One of the most harrowing series, yet the message comes through- we cannot protect children 24/7 and the Internet has become a very dangerous place for youth who lack self confidence. A must watch.
