I was saddened to see that this film was rated so horribly. It does not deserve an overall two star rating. Especially with so many highly rated written reviews. Seeing that it had two stars made me not want to watch it at first but I'm so glad I did. Due to this, I decided to write a review hopefully encouraging more people to watch.
I have never seen a film with such emotionally complex chartacters before and it was extremely refreshing to see. I saw myself in multiple of characters and I feel as if that is rare nowadays. The people in this movie carried communication very well and asked each other thought provoking questions. In that way, it really reminded me of the film titled 'Before Sunrise'. I felt that was no judgment between the characters as everyone in the story seemed to be flawed in their own way. This added to the realism. Nowadays we never really get to see into a characters thoughts vividly and in this film that is revealed and expressed throughout diologue with others.
I thought it was very interesting to see into the mind of the character that Witherspoon played. She discovered ideas that might be "taboo" to talk about. She expressed that it was never her dream to have kids or see herself in a motherly role and I feel that is a different narrative than the one Hollywood is usually feeding us. This was nice to see, to prove that your reality could be different than what the media pushes on us.
Final note, I was obsessed with the scene that Annie and the baby had. I feel like I have never seen such joy displayed in this setting before and it resulted in being a very cute feel good scene.
Definitely watch this movie if you get the chance! Don't listen to all the nasty reviews.
