This review is based on the PS4 console version only, maybe the PC version is better. This is the worst Soul Calibur game in the series. If you enjoyed the game, please pick up any other one (SC II - V) and compare for yourself.
The starting roster is the smallest since Soul Calibur 1. SC2 = 23 characters, SC3 = 42, SC4 = 34, and SC5 = 28. This game has 21 characters unless you preordered and paid for season passes, which now cost $65 together. This means Bandai/Namco values their game at $125 if bought new. But it's not worth that, not even close.
The clunkiness in the borrowed Unreal engine shows, the character creation offers the least amount of options ever (unless you pay), and the graphics are terrible compared to SC4 and SC5. There is a new pattern system in customization, which is the ONLY new feature. Also, no unlockable equipment at all. The whole thing just feels like the developers either didn't care or needed at least another year.
The developers claimed they wished to focus on the story modes instead, and make that better. However, action scenes consist of pictures of the characters shaking over brown background art. It's just so terrible that it's almost funny. The voice actors don't even sound like the characters from the previous game, and some have entirely new accents. The storyline by the way is a straight copy from Soul Calibur 2 with a couple changes to shove in 1 new character and try to rewrite the series.
Do yourself a favor and by Soul Calibur 3, 4, or 5 for a far better game for way less money. This is a sad example of how low budget, not enough care and corporate greed are killing this game franchise.
