Gripping from beginning to end.
So I intentionally did not read up on this play before attending. I didn't want the discourse of negative or positive views to influence my experience.
The play was brilliantly exposing, intersectional, uncomfortable and confronting all in one.
Touching on very sensitive topics with a deeper analytical view on the impact of lived experiences across a variety of lenses I was left with much food for thought. There is a lot to decompress afterwards and im left with an enlightend awareness of some of the more complex issues that are faced throughout the play.
I did not attend a Blackout night,( I'm glad I didn't) as a Black woman it allowed for the authenticity of nervous or obnoxious laughter in parts by the audience and the greater awareness of how other people perceive Black trauma and provide grace and understanding.
I would definitely recommend everyone watch this play and form theor own opinion. Artistic works are supposed to evoke discussion, this play has done that but it has additionally left me thankful these discussions are being had at all.
I'll close by saying it is well written, well acted and great storytelling.
Enjoy if you go!
