It felt slightly dry at first, but the story came into play and we enjoyed it. I am thankful that it’s such a cliche to say but we have Indian films like this, addressing controversies that we have within our culture. The judgement aspect to life everyone culture has irrespective of your skin colour, faith and all the other labels we humans we have attached to our being. We just enjoyed watching this film from every character’s point of view, understanding them makes the film. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this film.

For me this movie directs at many issues. As a mum, I feel like we need to conform to many societies. I’m from an Asian background, it’s all about being rich and sending your children to the best school. You have to be around snobby, and judgmental family. God forbid your child is too fat and theirs is the right weight, great looking and your just one from the dysfunctional family. So the child likes to play with dolls and dress up like a girl. In the Asian community, your child would be so judged. The child in this character is four, what more sense are you going to make about a four old. I think other critics are so harsh on this movie. They don’t actually get the bigger picture. I watched this movie over two days, and the second day I watched it properly. (Didn’t have my own children running around, hence the two day.). One parent wants to blind side things and the other wants to address the issue. Isn’t that common output of life these days. What I have learnt from this movie, nothing is controllable. You have to learn to be happy, and not confirm to a society for judgmental people. You can’t stop your children being around all negativity, but you can support them to be better people.

What the media need to understand, it’s not a trivialisation of the actual history. It’s a way to teach the general Indian population, who don’t have access to the right education. It’s a way to teach a society that is backwards in its thought about disabilities. Instead of condemning this movie, think about the pockets of inspiration that it will have on the future generation. It’s teaching the Indian society about placing image secondary and to actually be able to engage in a meaningful way. It’s an Indian movie that has more to it than the general Bollywood movies that come out. It does have depth. It’s teaching empathy and India had their own issues under the British rule. I don’t think there can be any movie that could do justice to the past but it helps to just have that small bit of understanding. I would advocate that the Bollywood stars operated more this way, instead of their usual self absorbed behaviours.
