This movie...is amazing on so many levels! Now, Iโm no legit movie critic but I love animations, cinematography and I can always appreciate an authentic story line. Granted, the whole โrobots taking over mankindโ concept has been done before but NextGen, for me, is an exception. A HUGE kudos to Wang Nima for writing such an amazing story and a huge kudos to Kevin and Joe for aiding to successfully bring that story to our screens. I certainly would have paid to see this in theaters.
The animation in this film had to be, by far, one of the best Iโve witnessed to date, again Iโm no animation expert but it was flawless and the action scene shots?! O M (BLEEP) G! Youโd think an actual live human was manning the โcameraโ with how seamless and realistic they looked. I loved the infusion of the Asian-American cultures and I especially loved the overall symbolism. Seriously, it was almost scary how many references I caught, the main being, another โAriesโ antagonist (refer to Wonder Woman and/or Greek Mythology).
Without giving any spoilers, Iโve got to say it can easily be compared to Big Hero 6 but in all honesty, Next Gen is 20x better. Even with itโs adult humor/censors, mild violence, itโs certainly a movie I would watch again and again with my 9 year old. If my 4 year old wasnโt such a rebel, Iโd feel comfortable watching it with him too buuut, itโll have to wait until heโs about 6 lol. The humor was right on point and although the storyline is more than familiar, everyone involved managed to make this unique and original in its own simplistic way. Not to mention, I couldnโt have picked a better cast to voice over such authentic characters.
Donโt even get me started on the soundtrack/songs I heard throughout the film. Well (BLEEP) done guys! This deserves so much more credit than I see it has gotten.
For what my opinionsโ worth, I give it 8/10 stars!
