One of my favorite of the series. Lots of interesting parts that show off Auel’s skills and background knowledge really well without the excessive expositional descriptions that took up so much of plains of passage. I thought plains of passage wasn’t as good as the others. This one reminds me of mammoth hunters and clan of the cave bear. A lot more interactions with jondalar’s people without the love triangle wiyh Ranec. Too much drama or I would think mammoth hunters was just as good as this one. I highly recommend the whole series.:) in land of the painted caves they made jondalar look like a total jerk which was a shame because it ruined him as a character that people had grew to love. You have to read it to know what happened, but it seemed unnecessary and out of character for the Jondalar we had gotten to know and love, or at least understand as a person we could care about and enjoy as a part of the series.
