Reading through all of the reviews, I stumbled on the negatives. I skimmed through each. When I say I skimmed, I truly mean it because I just can't help but feel major utter annoyance as I couldn't disagree more with the negative reviews.
Maybe these people are generally not a fan of Sandra bullock in general, and watched just because they were bored and felt the need to share their general disliking of her. Or maybe they have put so much time into film study, to the point where they can no longer have touch on the bigger picture of films.
Just like usual she did it again. Sandra bullock does a phenomenal job playing a character in a story to the point you forget that she is an actor or that she is even acting. The script was phenomenal. All the actors who played each character did a fantastic job.
I loved to see something more realistic. More true to people's everyday lives in terms of the emotions we have and how we process them. The parents who love one another but have different values and emotions on the situation, the trauma that people endure and how different it looks and takes form in human beings. There is so much realness.
I take medication that makes me less emotional so, I told myself that I wasn't going to cry during this movie however, I did. Like most others. But at odd times, when I would feel strangely sympathetic and could relate on emotional levels. This movie was putting in perspective a lot of things for me. The emotions of my friends, family and even myself, how things have impacted them, how they processed their emotions and dealt with some trauma they may have experienced. It was so strange to me for some reason. Most movies do not make me think about my own struggles or others that are close to me, but this one did.
There is one scene, where Sandra's character is sitting in the lawyers office, and I quickly thought of the movie she was in (the Blindside) where she plays a rich woman trying to help out a struggling young man get his life back. And I just thought "Wow!". Both movies were excellent, and also convincing enough to cause me to tear up. She plays two characters completely opposite of eachother in two different movies so perfectly, with such grace and elegance.
I really felt something for each of the characters. The brothers, although they made me angry, I could see their motives and what caused them to develop their mindset, the little sister, who had lost her memory through severe trauma that her mind was trying to keep her safe at such a young age, Sandra, well... it's obvious if you use your logic, and all others as well.
I would definitely recommend and watch again if I need to have an honest, but small cry.
