As a long-time Christopher Nolan fan, I walked into "Oppenheimer" with high hopes. I mean, who wouldn't after gems like "Memento," "Inception," and the Batman Trilogy? But man, this one's a letdown.
First off, don't bother with the IMAX or 70mm hype. Seriously, save your $20. The film's marketing made it sound like you'd be missing out on some visual masterpiece if you didn't go big. Spoiler: you won't. Most of the movie is dialogue-heavy, and the much-anticipated explosion scene? A total dud.
The story had potential, considering it's about J. Robert Oppenheimer, a complex figure in history. But the film barely scratches the surface of his internal struggles, be it his political leanings or his Jewish identity, especially given the Nazi context. It's like Nolan decided to play it safe when he should've gone deep.
And let's talk about the last hour. It's basically a snooze fest of Oppenheimer defending his security clearance against Robert Downey Jr.'s character, Lewis Strauss, who seems to have a vendetta but delivers it through yawn-inducing monologues.
The film tries to end on a high note with a conversation between Oppenheimer and Einstein, aiming for an emotional climax. But it just fizzles out, ending with an awkward zoom-in on Cillian Murphy's face.
So, yeah, other than that, "great film." Lol. If you're a Nolan fan, prepare for a different kind of twist: disappointment.
