Went to this for Valentineโs Day and cannot express how irritating I found it. The interiors, hair were straight out of the 60s-red velvet walls, tacky gold statues with completely fake looking boobs, teased hair, wicker furniture, NOT the 19th century. The repetition of Laraโs Theme- make it stop. The old manโs white collar after being in a dirty train car for days, all a ridiculous fantasy where only the battle scenes seemed somewhat based in reality- minus the colour of that pool of blood. Julie Christie was terrible, I didn't care about any of the characters or believe in their attraction. I absolutely hate this style of American film- fantasy over reality.
Thank god the 70s happened in Hollywood and for people like Cassavetes. If you like Harlequin Romances you might like this movie.
