This is entirely an exercise in futility. It’s not that it’s slow or dull as dishwater. The performances are uniformly stellar and the setting is inspiring of the best of the genre. However, the writing is devoid of cohesion and the directing is insipid and leads nowhere. You can dress it up all you want as much of the critical review has, affording this non-starter a whopping 89% on Rotten Tomatoes, but in the end, this film pretends to be something it’s not and IS something it never wanted to be.
