Let me start by saying that I despise trump and hope he lives for another 20 years after he gets incarcerated for life.
With that disclosure of my inherent bias, I have to admit that the movie helped me to understand him a little better and in some ways even empathize or even pity him a bit.
It certainly humanized him. I see his initial meeting with Cohn as his Rosebud moment, for those of you who have seen Citizen Kane - which, by the way, you should definitely see if you haven't already.
Of course, this is a movie, and it leaves a lot out. It only covers the part of his life from when he started in real estate on his own up to his sit down to discuss his first book. And it seems mostly truthful and fact-based for that part of his life although, as a movie, it does take some liberties.
It is a story of his triumphs, not his failures. Those familiar with his history recognize that everything he does eventually fails, but the movie ends before that happens.
If you despise trump you should see the movie, as perhaps it will help you to understand him a little more. If you are a MAGAt you should also see the movie, as it will likely reinforce your beliefs while providing some context.
The movie was better than the reviews led me to believe it would be, with very strong and believable acting and an interesting and compelling story. Though perhaps it was not as good as I hoped it would be. I'd give it 4 1/2 stars, but since this system won't allow for halves, I will round up to 5.
