It was an interesting concept, but it drags on a lot. Not to say I was bored for most of the film or anything, but the whole โwhoโs telling the truth!? ๐ฑโ aspect took way too long. There were a good 3/4 back and forths which comprised a fair share of the film runtime. It relies on emotional development, which is fine because itโs important to the story, but the world has a lot of potential that I feel just isnโt really thought out or shown.
That being said, the last ten minutes or so have a lot of holes in the plot that just arenโt talked about. Those holes do allow for a sequel, but I hope that any sequels will be a little less predictable in the plot.
**SPOILERS**
Alright people, itโs rant time!
Honestly though, Iโm a little tired of the โhumans are destroying the world, so I (as a machine) am going to fix itโ narrative. Itโs not a novel idea anymore! It was fun the first few times, but now itโs just tired. Maybe I expect a little too much from my sci-fi, but if youโre going to give me that world, make it fun!
Maybe the machines are dormant in the earthโs core and kill off the humans every millennia or so.
Maybe the machines created humanity to begin with and are trying different organism parameters to see if one can survive without killing the planet. (Ie-they used DNA this time around, but maybe would go with something else later)
The ending two scenes are swank being killed (which Iโm honestly okay with) and daughter becoming the mother. (Who couldnโt have seen that one coming right? ๐) But that doesnโt say anything about the machines growing food for the new humans. Theyโre gonna have to work with the machines at SOME point, right? Not to mention that they canโt even open the door right now because the beam holding the door shut wasnโt fully cut through. So how are they gonna get out?
Oh! And she canโt raise like... 30 kids at once... sooo sheโll do what 5, then 20, then 50 etc etc? That bunker will be packed by the time she gets old. And then when they go out into the real world.... are the machines going to provide housing?
Also, how is this any different than the biblical beginning of the human race? Two people (m/f) who technically arenโt related, with the woman having eaten the fruit of knowledge, then feeding the male said knowledge fruit, which then leads to a lot of babies. People are people, genetic variation happens. The perfect human population doesnโt exist.
All of this, and she has 0 sex experience. So hey.... top notch mother figure.... how do you tell a girl that youโve been told is your sister that you like her?....
Also also, she lived in a sterile environment her entire life!!! The bacteria outside would have made her super sick, right? (Unless weโre assuming vaccinations are involved here... watch out anti-vaccers)
Sigh..... alright. Iโm sure I could find more, but Iโm good for now.
