Started watching this as a joke, turns out it’s worse. It’s frustrating because the monster and the creepiness is really good, but I can’t get over the horrible cliche of the teens all being sex and technology addicted. All of their problems are chalked up to phone addiction. It was unnecessary and I couldn’t get over that part. I feel like this movie wanted to be satirical, I hope that’s what they were going for, but it doesn’t come off as that. It comes off as a bunch of garbage parents who are mad at their kids for preferring their phone over them and so they write a petty horror movie to get rid of them. On top of the cliche characters it has a bunch of common horror movie tropes. Let’s split up because that’s a good idea. Let’s sneak away from the group to make out or something. It’s frustrating. A lot of people are saying that we aren’t “used to this kind of movie.” That isn’t it. The plot of camping and getting killed by something in the woods is cool, but it’s ruined by all the little things. This could have been so good but it isn’t. Two stars for the monster I guess.
