One of the best reads I've had in years and one I will hold close to my heart for a long time. Miller's use of imagery and smilies is storytelling at its best, harkening back to the timeless epics she recounts with the just the right balance of emotion, details, and grandeur. Unlike many other modern retellings, her adaptations humanize the mythological without making it more palatable for modern tastes. A master of her craft! Also beautifully read by Perdita Weeks if you listen to the audiobook.

Wanted to love this and was initially very taken by the overall concept but this one fizzles out a bit. Occasionally very funny and some great observations but most characters apart from one totally lack charisma and the flow is disjointed. While I love a thoughtful tangent, most asides in this book were a bit too blasé to make their mark, and the return to setting often jarring. Main story line has the making of a great thriller/intrigue and with better writing would have been compelling if it hadn't been so boring in its current form. Ultimately I would not recommend.
