This is the best and most realistic combination of baseball and romance. A thoroughly classy and well told sports story with absolute realism. The commentating of the late great Vin Scully is riveting; as Billy Chapel completes the perfect game, Scully rambles off the best line of the movie; “The Cathedral that is Yankee Stadium, belongs to a Chapel!” I grew up watching the Yankees at that particular Yankee Stadium and it was an absolute sanctuary for me, as a child. That backdrop grabbed me, and the plot held me. The love story played out very realistically between a professional sports star and a good girl. I stop and watch For Love of The Game each time I see it in my guide.
