All of the reviews about the bad words and disobedience are correct. I watched this with my 17 & 9yo boys… they both kept saying, “This movie is weird. Even weirder than Mitchell’s vs the machines.”
Other things also stood out to me.
Why is the mom so much larger than everyone else in her family?
And if you can just smash your necklace or bracelet then turn human again at the next red moon, why not just do that?
Also how is everyone okay with her becoming a big red panda? It’s not like that’s normal in their world. So wouldn’t that freak ppl out? How can everyone know it’s her and not be scared by her choosing to stay a panda after she lost her temper on that one boy?
So many things don’t add up. At least in other magic type movies (frozen, even toy story) ppl react realistically.
It felt like a Made for TV / Disney channel movie that Disney specifically made for teenage girls. I could relate to the boy band thing, but my sons & husband definitely couldn’t.
I just don’t get why they marketed it with only the panda part, then so much of the movie is about getting your period for the first time, being boy crazy, or rebelling. Encanto explained family issues and rebellious nature better. I feel as if the coming back together as a family but still “being true to who you are” was better as well in Encanto & Luca. The parents are worried but still support their child in the end. I didn’t feel like in the end of this movie the 13yo girl has consequences for actions. The mom just accepted her daughter is “now a women” and they all moved on.
I wanted to recommend it but it’s got too many holes to be a good Disney quality movie. It just felt rushed and too cheaply made.
