My review of this show is a bit biased since I have read and enjoyed the series. So much that I have have started rereading them.
I will start off by warning anyone who has read the books that this show does NOT follow the series of events from the book very well. I get that the TV series should be different to an extent but I made it through half the first episode and turned it off since the only similarity is basically just the characters names. I have since went back and finished the first episode and trying to watch more to give the benefit of the doubt but it is proving difficult for me.
My first gripe is with character portrayal ( this has nothing to do with the actual actors) but Richard is described in the books as basically being a mountain of a man, tall and very well muscled. Darken Rahl is supposed to be blond. I know it's petty but it's a bit disappointing when the characters don't fit your expectations.
Second thing is that Richard was actually terrified by the quad and took Kahlan to try to lose them they eventually caught up with them but I feel this is an important part of the growth of Richards character as he wasn't a headstrong rush into danger person.
And the last thing for now since I'm not very far into the TV series is that in the books Zed is Richards best friend NOT the crazy old man who talks to chickens. This is also an important detail since in the books Richard is forced to make decisions regarding his old friend.
I will update my review if I can bring myself to finish the series maybe it will get better as it goes on
