It is boring. It spends 1,000 words to say what should be said in 10. And then it does that 10,000 times. I can not believe that John Grisham wrote this book. After slogging through about 150 pages, I could not care less about who did what to whom when where or why.

This book was simplistic at best - boilerplate and almost childishly conceived and written. I felt sympathetic to the main character for about 100 pages, and then it just got too tiring illogical. The minimal and staccato character development left me with nothing to grasp onto. There was a liberal sprinkling of trite expression throughout the book, yet they were delivered as if they were unique and insightful. The second half exhausted me to the point that I didn’t have the energy nor interest to slog through to the end. Don’t waste your time nor money.

I have not finished the book, and I doubt that I ever will. The hundreds and hundreds of Russians , attributed by name, but otherwise not fleshed out, provide a confusing picture and an unfulfilled narrative. It’s obvious that the book was exhaustively researched, but sometimes “less is more”. It’s an unsatisfactory read, in my book. I cannot recommend this book .
