KEV'S INSIGHT
A scintillating and well-crafted movie that has won multiple awards for its superb directing. Directed by Richard Linklater this movie was shot over the span of 12 long years capturing each and every moment and growth of Mason, the character played by Ellar Coltrane. It is just impeccable how this movie was shot every year with the same cast and crew to capture every detail and growth phase of different characters.
The storyline revolves around the transition period from primary school to his first day at college of a boy Mason. Mason is a child victim of divorced parents with his mom Olivia having custody of him and his sister Samantha. Struggling Olivia along with her children had to relocate multiple times moving away from a series of promising husbands who turns out to be boozehounds. Olivia is shown to be crabby for not achieving anything worthwhile in her life. The dad is shown to be a musician with a straight forward mind who gets to spend the weekends with his children.
A typical Richard Linklater movie with an unambiguous plot that seems to depict most of the emotions and story of the characters through their dialogues. The moments created in each scene of the movie is just so real-life like like one would feel relatable to such juncture.
The movie just shows how life can be at times and how one's thoughts and passion changes as time flies by. It’s a very good movie to recommend without hesitation.
