I watched this movie on Prime Video and totally regret not watching it in theaters and I was blown away with the storyline, the message, the acting, and most of all, the comedy. I was laughing from the moment the movie started and watched it multiple times ever since. The one thing that stood out to me was Ranveer's monologue about how Rocky was treated by Rani's family because of his upbringing and it broke my heart as well as Rani getting Rocky's mother and sister become more independent and bonding well with his grandfather. I was very moved by the fact that Rocky changed his patriarchy ways and became more of a man while living with Rani's familiy and standing up against his father when his mother tried to be more independent, showing growth in character. Karan Johar did a very good job balancing modern vs traditional, progressive vs regressive, how educated vs non-educated are treated differently as well as showing patriarchy, misogyny, cultural differences and a bit of a difference between different socioeconomic status of our current society around the world. There are references to old Bollywood movies and hence brought back the old Bollywood gems, but there are multiple takeaways from Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. It definitely one of the best rom-coms from Bollywood after a long time!
