While I like the show and the characters I don’t think it really shows the hardship of being a female in a Pakistani family. I mean she travels to Karachi and gets left by her cousins to wonder about the city alone, with no hajib even. She goes out at night and hangs with a bunch of boys and girls. In what part of Karachi would that happen? This is a place where dating before marriage is heavily frowned upon and even life threatening for some women.
I’m super excited to see a powerful young Muslim woman but I think the world they plopped her down in doesn’t fully show what she has to overcome to be that powerful nor does it actually exist. Why not show the culture the way it really is? It would make her journey to being a hero even more impressive. Why make her Pakistani Muslim at all if your just going to pretend that doesn’t come with its own kind of baggage?
Hopefully the show can move past this highlighting her being Muslim and just let her be a hero. I think I’ll enjoy it better then. Btw not trying to be an islamaphobe just someone married to a Pakistani man for 10 years that knows the cost of being a woman in that culture first hand.
