The reactions and dialogue of the main characters build and layer as bits of their realities come to light, merge, and spark off each other. I love a meaty character and these books have them in spades. Walking along these fully fleshed characters with all the flaws and foibles of humanity- even though they are not merely human- is as fun and frustrating as seeing your dear friend go though their own interesting life experiences.
