I think we are all blinded by a love towards the shadow hunter world. This book truly felt rough I guess.
Like I'm a reader who was obsessed with the mortal instruments (when I first read them I got through each book in about a day) the plot was amazing and beautifully paced and the characters were *chefs kiss* fantastic.
Now the dark artifacts, how should I sum this book up. It's long, 669 pages long and I think where it faults is how much time is spent on the blackthorn kids. It really throws you into the kids and spends more time with them than it does then the actually plot of the story (the murder or Emma's parents) like getting to chapter 8(almost 200 pages in) I know more about Tys fidget and sensory issues rather than Christina's past or even what the circumstance of Emma's parents murder really is.
I think Mark is done really well but some of his anger is just annoying(i do get that he was tourtued though so he gets some retribution for that). The name dropping from popular shadowhunters (clary and Jace or magnus Bane and Alec hell even Simon and his band) it just feels like it HAS to be there to connect the fact that these books are connected.
Then what I find most annoying is Emma's character as a whole. Like why is revenge her whole personality, it honestly is just a mixture of Jace redone. I get to that fighting should be a majority of their personality but Jace had other interests outside of fighting (playing piano for example) Isabella had fashion and so on and so forth even the Blackthorns have personality, painting science, murder mystery. Emma just is annoying I guess.
