When I think of flashy and stylish anime Demon Slayer is immediately a high recommendation for it's action scenes and lovable characters and all the seasons so far have been remarkable with tales of triumph and emotional losses, this new movie To The Hashira Training was pretty much made as a transition between arcs and it's kind of disappointing that way.
Unlike Mugen train which was almost the entire arc in one sitting, to the Hashira Training follows the same formula which was used in to the swordsmith village, which is take the finale for one season and the beginning of the next and give it a theatrical release and it shows right away with the first half of the movie being the final episode of the swordsmith village arc. Now I'm not saying the first half is bad, far from it as I consider that episode the perfect climax for a season as it pulled so many emotional heartstrings and the animation and dialogue was beautiful at every single turn. With that being said this episode takes up the first half of the total runtime and is kind of disappointing that longtime fans have to watch what has already been seen just to get to the new stuff.
which is why I recommend if you plan to see this, DON'T watch the final episode of swordsmith village arc as if you do you will just be watching the same thing twice.
Now as far as the second half of the movie, this is probably the best part since this is the first episode of the currently unreleased Hashira Training arc and for a first episode it's great, with the introduction of more Hashiras and seeing how Tanjiro and Nezuko recover from their previous ordeal along with fan favorites coming back after a season off. The introduction also paints a picture that the series is almost finished and I can't wait to see the finale of this series.
As far as this movie goes it was kind of disappointing that the first half is an episode I've already seen but the second half was what made it worth watching for me as this gives us a sneak peek of what we can expect from the next season. As individual episodes these are Remarkable. But as a movie it feels unnecessary unless you plan ahead if you're just starting to watch the entire anime up to that point so for longtime fans I would wait until the first episode of the new season comes to Crunchyroll or other streaming platforms, but for people who haven't watched the final episode of swordsmith village arc yet this is an easy recommendation to watch as you'll be caught up to speed with the anime thus far.
