Unflinching, unrelenting, and wholly uninterested in the viewers' comfort; The Nightingale forces us to confront the inhumanity in our history without ever feeling ungrounded. The truth is bleak - often far more brutish and merciless than we may car to admit, and this movie doesn't pull it's punches for one second.
The writer/director, Jennifer Kent, demonstrates masterful insight, and I'll be keeping my eye out for anything she's involved with in the future.
