I was already a fan of Sarah Winman but Still Life is her best book yet. An epic, sweeping story spanning the decades from WW2 onwards, taking us on a journey through Italy via London.
Still Life is really a story of relationships and how our friends become part of our families and how a group of people from different backgrounds can find common ground, despite their flaws and differences.
Told beautifully, and historically, you will fall in love with Ulysses, Evelyn, Peg, Cress and the rest of the characters and you will fall in love with Italy and its art.
A book that will make you laugh and cry, and will resonate with you long after you’ve finished it.
I have read it twice and listened to the audible version twice and it still impacts me as much each time.
A book that I will always return to and I can’t recommend it enough.
