By no means a Scorsese masterpiece in my view. He has made films superior to this in the past. This film runs like a premium, stylised documentary about an historical event involving a surreptitious, racially motivated, genocide of Native Americans. It most certainly does not play out like a thriller, considering that the antagonist and its intentions are revealed very early into the film. Top notch cinematography, great actors; and a standout performance by Lily Gladstone, make the film worth watching. This film is a reminder of the ruthless, exploitative ambitions of the supreme among us. The conclusion appears rushed notwithstanding the notable length of the film, and also appears maudlin and its message unconvincing, in the face of recent events, such as those in Haiti and other regions cursed with oil and gas resources. The film moves slowly, drags for a bit, shows a few moments of terrific acting and direction, and then concludes. If one is looking for a whodunit thriller filled with twists and turns, this film offers none of that. A solid 7/10 (i.e 3.5/5), nothing more. I had high expectations and was disappointed by what I saw.
