I was really excited when I read about the spin-off. The first show had promise but even then it suffered an identity crisis. It's trying to straddle genres of light hearted police detective show (like the original) with soap opera mellow drama...and it isn't working. There is no chemistry between Martha and Humphrey, and the underlying storyline makes no sense- why they would be trying to have a baby before getting married (since they are engaged). I understand people struggle with fertility- but that storyline is best in a drama series not a light dectective show. It, forgive the pun, kills the story. Humphrey is no longer quirky like in the past, instead he is being made a schmutz by everyone around him especially Martha. After episode 5, I dont really care what happens to the main charcters, any characters for that matter. I had high hopes for the show but the writers and directors failed. Not really a Paradise spin-off..and that is a huge problem since that is how it is advertised and trying to be sold.
