If you liked Waterworld, you might like this. I thought because I loved Yellowstone and Kevin Costner on Yellowstone that I would feel the same way about him in Horizon Chapter 1. NOPE. Huge disappointment. And I didn't appreciate the frantic montages and flash forwards as a way to wrap up a rambling 3 hour movie installment. It felt simultaneously desperate and lazy. Not satisfying at all. So I feel two stars is generous. Unlike Deadwood, Broken Trail, Yellowstone, and 1883, Horizon is not something I would ever rewatch. Ever. He should have made it a tv mini series so that he could dive deeper into characters. Not a movie. Not an installment. It was nice seeing familiar faces in the movie. Not to take away from any of the actors' efforts. They probably did the best with what they had. Fault lies in Costner's choice of storylines, disjointed plots, dialogue, and editing. I haven't been this disappointed in a Costner flick since Waterworld. Win some, lose some.
