One of the better scifi movies I've seen in a while. Gritty, original, well-acted, well-written. If you liked Monsters or Moon you will likely enjoy this movie. The writers focus on a corner of stoytelling that hasn't been explored in much depth in sci fi, the rugged frontier. One might quibble with whether this really needed to be sci fi--the basic storyline is one of self-reliance against a harsh environment populated with even harsher human adversaries--as this could be spelled out in any number of settings. But I found it refreshing to see it set in space, and the reliance on the suits created a close, clastrophobic intensity that would have been missing in another setting. I also enjoyed the dystopian view of our arrival as space-faring creatures. In the end we're same everywhere: greedy, lustful, generous, vengeful, loving.
