The first half of the film was exciting, but the intrigue gets lost an hour in. While Jennifer Lopez’s acting is on point, I absolutely hate the message this film sends about mothers. It’s extremely derivative. We never learn the main characters name, referring to her only as “mother”, and even then she does not get to parent her own child, but sticks around to protect Zoe with her life, giving everything while getting nothing in return. The film seems to send the message of; mother gives everything, mother gets nothing in return, mother can’t have a love interest, mother is cold and lives to protect. In my view this is an unhealthy image of motherhood. Hard pass.
