The game has great potential and is unique in many ways. It started out as a wonderful game with a well balanced mixture of PvP and PvE communities that had a lot of fun, but over time, the developers themselves obviously have stopped playing their own game. There's no testing of new devices that the game regularly releases. Otherwise, they wouldn't introduce so many broken or overpowered consoles, traits and weapons that create havoc within the game. Over the last 18 months or so, I've noticed a money grab going on. For example, the game might release 3 ships; the ships themselves are useless and/or unremarkable, but one of them may have a desired console, another may have a weapon and the other may have a starship trait. The 3 items together create a very powerful effect that is vital in game play, but the ships end up costing anywhere between $80 to $100 each. The mechanics of PvP in the game are the most unique of any other game out there and yet the developers address the PvP community as an unimportant afterthought.
This, naturally, has created discontent within the PvP community itself and has resulted in a highly toxic and combative atmosphere in which players harass, insult, berate and even threaten other players with real life actions using the discord platform.
After many years I have decided to stop playing the game. The enjoyment has become minimal and the investment and drama too great.
Advice to DEVS:
THE GAME NEEDS A FACELIFT! If you want to make money from the game, it's going to take money to invest. The game hasn't had an real graphics change to it since it was introduced in 2010 and other than some different equipment and a few changes to the way characters interact and perform, it's essentially the same game.
PLAY THE GAME YOU DESIGN. Seriously, you need to do this. Go in and interact with some of the players. Hold employee sponsored events where fun, in game prizes are given. Come on line with everyone and do some interaction, Q & A, advice on playing....anything. Go on missions or TFOs with some of your customers. Unless you like the product you're selling, you're never going to be able to sell it.
Reinvest in your product. Instead of just grabbing money anyway you can, lets give the game some much needed improvements so you can justify the grab.
ASK FOR FEEDBACK from the community that loves your game. You really need to do this.
Advertise and sponsor some Star Trek events. You could bring in a fresh new crowd if you made your existence known.
Until then, you're going to have more and more people leaving the game. It's just now worth playing anymore.
