I leapt into this book. I loved the wit and pace and the quirks of all the family members. I loved Reilly's themes of racism, homophobia and OCD that were woven organically throughout.
Eventually, though, I kept losing track of the large cast of characters, and began to feel distanced by long info-dump speeches and the sense that the author was trying hard to be endlessly funny.
The story meandered and then rushed to a conclusion related by numerous characters. I particularly found Ell's voice strained and I even found myself irritated by V.
But Reilly is an amazing talent and I'm looking forward to her next work.
