Wow. So glad Netflix is running this. I'm sure this film's release got crushed by the pandemic. Great performances from Denzel Washington, Rami Malek and Jared Leto along with very atmospheric noir LA locations. A detective crime drama that's a lot deeper than most that turns into a psychological thriller with a good creepy edge. Gonna watch this one again.

This is a Paul Schrader movie which means it's about the nature of morality and spirituality. It's a character study of a man played by Oscar Issacs who was deeply damaged in the Iraq War and is troubled by extreme guilt. If you're looking for a fast paced caper about big time gambling It's not THAT movie. If you like a deeper story which makes you think about the essential nature of life and humans, this is for you. I don't why other reviewers said the acting was bad. They might have confused the acting with characters they just didn't care for. If you're a fan of Schraders other films , the films of Robert Bresson or Ozu this is for you.
