Cold Case, in particular writer Rene Balcer is one of the best (if not the best) shows ever broadcast on television. Balcer writes from the "human experience". I lived for this show, before it was cancelled. I couldn't understand the reason but as we know, the industry can always give technical reasons. What I think that I do know was that fading those dead characters in and out of the present and the past, may have been costly (but that was what made the show). It's endings were tearful most of the time and joyous at other times. Balcer does not show a history of living in Philadelphia but he certainly showed us the real "City of Brotherly Love", instead of the fictional in America's mind. Balcer also has a fantastic super intellectual mind for giving us difficult plot lines but they are challenging. He also gave us tremendous stories involving the price of homophobia and other discrimination. My dream is that they re-create the new Cold Case and give us some intelligent television viewing (could I be asking too much?).
