The cinematography, acting, costume and storyline are true to the events of 1960's England and are exceptionally well done. I'd score those features 5 of 5.
But the story emphasizes the governmental misogyny of the UK and doesn't conclude with the life impacts; Therefore it falls short in my view.
We know history tells us women were treated $hitty all over the world and are still today.
With this story you don't get the full disclosure of the Duke's distructive impacts on others to his end of days; nor the Duchess' isolation and her continued abuse, from society at large, because of institutional and societal misogyny, leading to her end, when she afforded his very lifestyle.
I give the historical accuracy a 5 of 5, yet I found it distressing.
Whilecwatching I found no reason to find either party worthy of support, other than the horrible behavior of UK society toward women, then and now. For that I give it a 1 out of on social responsibility and accountability and the lack of finding a "lesson learned".
The mistreatment of women, regardless of the cause, shows how little the human race evolves and putting it in media to be observed glamorizes and perpetuates the behaviors versus identifying how times and behavior changes.
Overall because the material is like watching a deadly crash where both parties are claimed to be equally at fault, when they aren't, and no one survives gets an at best 3 of 5.
