I've spent 106 hours in Elden Ring, so I feel qualified to share my thoughts. Overall, Iโd rate the game a 3 out of 10: 1 point for its graphics, 1 for the mechanics, and 1 for the variety of equipment. I wouldnโt recommend it. The tutorial doesn't provide a good introduction, and the blocks of text do a poor job of visually explaining how to play. Some quests rely on unclear mechanics or one-time-use items, and without prior experience, there's little chance you'd figure out things like secret paths behind fake walls or that you can talk to a doll through the menu screen.
For most of my playthrough, Iโve had to rely on YouTube just to make progress. Unlike many other action RPGs, there's no in-game guidance or companion to help you navigate the world, which makes the experience feel directionless. Lore is practically nonexistent unless you dig into fan-made theories online. The game doesnโt offer a way to uncover the story naturally.
On top of that, the stat system is misleadingโโstrengthโ doesnโt actually increase your strength in the way you'd expect, and โvigorโ affects health instead. While the monster designs are visually diverse, many share the same movement patterns and combat behaviors, making boss fights feel repetitive. Crafting is nearly pointless; I rarely, if ever, found a reason to use it.
I understand some people might disagree with my review, but Elden Ring feels more like a sequel made for seasoned Dark Souls players than something designed to welcome newcomers.
