Lambasted for its buggy launch akin to that of a Bethesda Game (Looking at you, Skyrim, Fallout 4 and Fallout 76), Mass Effect: Andromeda is a game that is trying to both appeal to a new audience and the audience of the original series. While controversial, the setting that it establishes is brim with potential as the game focuses on only a single cluster in the entirety of the Andromeda galaxy. The story starts off slow like Mass Effect 1, but eventually I found myself engaged in some parts (I found myself enjoying the side quests a lot more than the main quests).
Like the Original Trilogy, some of the dialogue delivery leaves a lot to be desired. Sara Ryder's acting is especially dreadful, reminding me of horrifically terrible lines from Mass Effect 1 such as "HOLD THE LINE" or "ENEMIES EVERYWHERE". However, Scott Ryder's acting reminds me of a more emotionally-responsive Shepard with the same level of camp.
Given Andromeda is the first of it's ilk, it's clear that BioWare will need more time (another game) to truly reach that potential. Andromeda had many flaws at the beginning and like Mass Effect 1, those flaws are glaring...But, I'm hoping that a possible Andromeda 2 will improve upon those flaws and hopefully streamline the some of monotony. Originally I was disappointed, but I have optimism and even hope for the Mass Effect Franchise...Especially after the blunder that was Mass Effect 3 and its notorious endings.
It's no Mass Effect 2, but it's at least not Mass Effect 3.
