I know this is controversial, but I did not massively enjoy this film.
It was good, incredibly good in fact, in creating a disturbing and uncomfortable atmosphere. But I was hoping for more exploration of the psychology of the characters (who were acted excellently).
It seemed to me at least, that the film had one central point to make around the juxtaposition of the horror of the camp and the faux normal life lived by the family. I guess you could also say it showed that the camp commandant of Aushwitz was evil by almost any defenition, but that should not be news to anyone.
I didn't think it was bad as such, but it was I felt very much a missed opportunity for what could have been an amazing film. But I know I am in the minority, so perhaps I was missing something.
