Yikes! One Piece on Netflix just feels like it's coming up short of the Grand Line in this new live action adaptation of the worldwide successful anime/manga series.....
The Cons....
1.) The East Blue Saga being abridged into 8 episodes makes the story feel rushed and the pacing felt like it hurt more than it helped.
2.) The One Piece anime/manga had a more comedic tone to it at times. Sadly, That comedic and entertaining aspect to the Netflix series feels lost, again due to its pacing issues.
3.) The acting feels stiff, wooden and even amateurish at times. My gosh, could these people literally have more than just one way to deliver their lines? Why does Zoro feel so edgy? Why does Nami seem so jerkish? Usopp feels like he is totally lost, has no right to be there and serves no real purpose on the live action Straw Hats. Sanji is just cringe.
The Pros.
1.) Visually appealing and the stage and set designs look really nice. It does look really good for an anime adaptation. The characters don't look like bad cosplay most of the time.
2.) Battles are ok at best. Obviously we aren't getting Anime/Manga quality Battles here but what we got was somewhat interesting to watch. Could improve as the series goes on.
3.) The series has some potential. It's hard to adapt Shonen anime into live-action at times and though the series falls flat, I can give credit where credit is due. It's a decent attempt. Hopefully the Acting and pacing improve when they hit a major story Saga
like Alabasta.
